| AfriTek is the developer of PID Designer and is an authorized reseller and distributor of the PC-ControLAB & MPC-ControLAB software packages developed by Wade Associates, Inc. | | | PC-ControLAB & MPC-ControLAB | | | | | PC-ControLAB is a Windows based process control loop simulation program with a user interface that provides most of the common features of typical operator stations. This familiar environment makes for a notably reduced learning curve with using the package.
The program provides 13 control strategies (Feedback, Dual Feedback, Ratio, Cascade, 2 forms of Feedforward, Override, 2 forms of Decoupling and 4 forms of Model-Based Control) and numerous process models representing typical dynamic processes such as temperature, pressure, flow and level applications.
A companion program which is furnished with PC-ControLAB, Builder, permits user configuration of additional process models by graphically selecting, linking and parameterizing standard function blocks. Thus a user can quite readily configure a process model which qualitatively resembles real process applications.
The software package is furnished on one CD, and includes extensive HELP files and tutorials, plus over 20 laboratory and demonstration exercises which can be used in support of process control training seminars as well as for self study. The laboratory exercises correlate well with a textbook, Basic and Advanced Regulatory Control, System Design and Application, written by the program developer.
MPC-ControLAB is a program for demonstrating the behavior of model predictive control. Its user interface, based upon PC-ControLAB, contains a scrolling grid which displays the past 60 minutes of activity, and a fixed grid which displays the predicted future activity of process variables for the next 30 minutes. The simulation can either be run continuously, or - under user control - be operated in a "step" mode. The step mode permits user examination of the results of each step of a calculation cycle.
A User's Guide, Technical Overview and Laboratory Exercise can be accessed under the HELP menu item.
MPC-ControLAB is included at no additional charge on the PC-ControLAB CD. | | | PID Designer | | | | | Since first introduced in industry over fifty years ago, some estimates suggest that now, more than 50% of industrial controllers in use today utilize a form of PID (Proportional, Integral and Derivative) or modified PID control scheme, with most of these probably implemented in SISO analog configurations. Unfortunately however, apart from offerings from some of the DCS manufacturers and a few other packages, there are no readily available methods for consistently generating the PID parameters for an application.
PID Designer allows the tuning parameters for a PID controller to be quickly determined using both classical and modern approaches. The tool also provides a comprehensive comparison of the performance of the resulting controllers, thus allowing the most appropriate controller for a particular application to be selected.
While other available methods only implement loop decoupling in MIMO systems by de-tuning some loops, PID Designer provides true decoupling using modern control techniques without having to de-tune any of the interacting loops | |
